UNDERGROUND FIBER INSTALLATION FUNDAMENTALS

Pre-Requisite: Fiber Basics or CFOT® Course Length: 4 full days (40 hours)

Certifications Earned: Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/OSP (CFOS/O)

25% Classroom/75% field training
Focus on proofing OSP conduit and placing pull string or tape Techniques and procedures for pulling fiber cable is OSP Techniques and procedures for jetting fiber cable in OSP Reading blueprints, labeling, and producing redlines/as builds

To qualify for Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/OSP certification, a specialist training program will cover at least the following topics:

  • Overview of OSP fiber optic installations

  • Communications systems utilizing OSP fiber optic cable plant

  • Fiber optic components appropriate for OSP networks

  • Construction for OSP installations

  • Installation of buried, underground and aerial cable

  • Splicing and testing cables, including splice closures, OLTS and OTDR testing

  • Restoration

  • Lab Exercises including hands-on splicing and testing on simulated outside plant.

AERIAL FIBER INSTALLATION FUNDAMENTALS

Pre-Requisite: Fiber Basics or CFOT®

Course Length: 4 full days (40 hours)

Certifications Earned:

  • Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/OSP (CFOS/O)

  • Pole Climbing, Ladder, and Bucket Truck Certifications

  • 25% Classroom/75% field training
    Hardware identification
    Tool usage
    Proper pole framing IAW NESC clearances  Strand/Lash installation

To qualify for Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/OSP certification, a specialist
